Youth Policy
We take seriously our responsibility
to protect and safeguard the welfare of children and young people entrusted
to our care. The church is committed to:
·
listening to, relating
effectively and valuing children and young people whilst ensuring their
protection within church activities.
·
encouraging and supporting parents and
carers.
· ensuring the children’s / youth workers are
given support and training.
Content of our Youth Policy
The
church recognises that many children and young people today are sadly the
victims of neglect and physical, sexual and emotional abuse. As an
organisation working with children, we have a responsibility to act if abuse
comes to light and, as far as possible, to protect children from the
possibility of being abused within the church. Accordingly, the church
has adopted this Youth Policy which sets out agreed guidelines relating to
the following areas
· arrangements for supervision of youth
activities
· appointing children’s / youth workers
·
responding to suspicions or allegations of
abuse or neglect, including those made against leaders or members of the
church.
The content of this policy is
applicable to all youth activities carried out by the church
and is fully endorsed by the leadership team and church members’ meeting.
The church recognises the need to build constructive links with the child
care agencies. Accordingly, these guidelines have been prepared in
consultation with Cambridgeshire County Council Social Services Department
and PCCA’s Churches’ Child Care Protection Advisory Service*, who hold a
copy of this policy.
*
PCCA Christian Child Care are an interdenominational organisation who have
been advising churches on issues of abuse since 1983.
