Youthworks

We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the youth work at SBC.

Our Promise

We promise the parents of all the young people who attend our events that we will provide…

·    A great opportunity to explore the Christian message for themselves; and

·   A safe environment in which we can grow together. All our children's & youth workers are CRB checked and follow the guidelines set out in our child protection policy.  A copy of this is available on request.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to our Pastor, Colin Stringer, or one of the group leaders.

Jellytots

SBC Jellytots Leaders: Lucimar & Chris...is a drop-in for mums, dads & carers on Wednesday mornings during term-time.  We run from 9:15 to 11am in the Upper Room of SBC.  It’s a great opportunity to call in for a coffee and a chat in a friendly and informal setting.  Parenting, grand-parenting and child-minding can be a stressful job, so take the opportunity to come along to get a break, meet other people and often find some food for thought.

The leaders are Lucimar & Chris (right).  Please speak to them for further details.

SSunday Clubs

...get together at ~11.15am, after ½ an hour all together ‘as a church family’. The children, and the leaders for that week, then leave for their appropriate classes. The "BibleBeebies" (4-6yrs) and the "CBBC" (7-10yrs) classes are held upstairs in the Upper Room and conclude at midday to coincide with the end of the Morning Worship. A group for 11-16's, "Bible Bashers", is held at the same time in a small room off the Fuller Room, downstairs.  Sunday Clubs use 'Click' resources published by The Good Book Company.

Crèche, for pre-school children,  is in the downstairs Fuller Room, at the same time.

SBC - Sunday Club Leaders - September 2009

The leaders are, from left to right (back), Martin*, Cheryl, Jon, Lucimar, Tanya*, Sharon, Elaine... & seated: Mary, Anne* & Penny. Please speak to them for further details. (*=11-16 year leaders).

Buzz

SBC Buzz Leaders: Dave, Kathryn, Matt & Debbie...is a group for school year 6 and above for those who are seriously interested in exploring the Christian faith.  Buzz meets on Friday evenings from 7:15 pm in different homes and goes ‘out and about’ for some of the fun activities.  The weekly meetings alternate between serious Bible study and fun events.

The leaders are Dave, Kathryn, Matt & Debbie.

Youth Policy

We take seriously our responsibility to protect and safeguard the welfare of children and young people entrusted to our care.  The church is committed to:

·  listening to, relating effectively and valuing children and young people whilst ensuring their protection within church activities.

·  encouraging and supporting parents and carers.

·  ensuring the children’s / youth workers are given support and training.

Content of our Youth Policy

The church recognises that many children and young people today are sadly the victims of neglect and physical, sexual and emotional abuse.  As an organisation working with children, we have a responsibility to act if abuse comes to light and, as far as possible, to protect children from the possibility of being abused within the church.  Accordingly, the church has adopted this Youth Policy which sets out agreed guidelines relating to the following areas

·  arrangements for supervision of youth activities

·  appointing children’s / youth workers

·   responding to suspicions or allegations of abuse or neglect, including those made against leaders or members of the church.

The content of this policy is applicable to all youth activities carried out by the church and is fully endorsed by the leadership team and church members’ meeting.  The church recognises the need to build constructive links with the child care agencies.  Accordingly, these guidelines have been prepared in consultation with Cambridgeshire County Council Social Services Department and PCCA’s Churches’ Child Care Protection Advisory Service*, who hold a copy of this policy.

* PCCA Christian Child Care are an interdenominational organisation who have been advising churches on issues of abuse since 1983.
